CMS requires companies to specify personnel qualifications, experience, training and continuing education requirements, all possible through EmTrak.


Accrediting bodies have varying requirements for personnel management, but the keys are these:

  • There must be a written job description
  • Hiring is done according to a job description
  • Orientation is given to specific job requirements and to the organization
  • Employees are evaluated after the 90 day Introductory Period
  • Evaluations are done annually afterward
  • Evaluations are written, shared with employees and signed.

    In fact, Graham’s top 5:
    1. The manager personally congratulates employees who do a good job.
    2. The manager writes personal notes about good performance.
    3. The organization uses performance as the basis for promotion.
    4. The manager publicly recognizes employees for good performance.
    5. The manager holds morale-building meetings to celebrate successes.

    Look at Herzberg and Maslow. They would suggest that employees want praise and recognition, challenging work, growth and development opportunities. Money makes a positive difference, but it is not THE positive difference-maker.
